BlackPink Wins VMA’s Award For The Best Metaverse Concert 

BlackPink, the renowned K-Pop(Korean-pop) girl group, has clinched the metaverse award for best performance. Meanwhile, the group faced tough competition from stars such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, BTS and many others.

BlackPink Wins Metaverse Award 

BlackPink, usually written as BLɅϽKPIИK, has emerged as the first winner of the VMA’s Best Metaverse Performance. The band is a South Korean group made up of girls.

Members of the groups Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo gained prominence in 2016. They quickly climbed up the ladder of fame and became an international band.

This girl has achieved several milestones over the years. Currently, they are the largest girl band in the world. Moreover, they are the first K-Pop girl group on the US Billboard charts. 

Also, the group is the first female Korean group to surpass a billion views on YouTube with the song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.” Additionally, they are the most followed female group on Spotify. 

BlackPink is the first group to have five songs receive a billion YouTube views. The band continues to set records across the entire music industry.

After dominating the music industry in the real world, the group is all set to dominate in the metaverse. This is visible with their latest award at the MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards). Moreover, this is their first performance at the VMAs.

MTV Embraces The Metaverse Concept

Meanwhile, MTV, the American cable channel, has been in the music industry for several years. Before now, the TV station argued that video usage would surpass radio.

Now, the metaverse is here and is gaining more traction as MTV’s viewers dropped over the years. Hence, the company decided to create a category for metaverse concerts to increase viewership.

The trophy BlackPink received depicts an astronaut exploring the moon. This represents the first video image shown on MTV during its debut.

While receiving the award, the girl band expressed gratitude for having a chance to perform at the VMAs. Meanwhile, the competition for this award was very intense.

They faced famous singers such as Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, K-Pop group BTS, Twenty-One Pilots, and Charlie XCX. 

The BlackPink Metaverse event is one of the several success stories in the virtual space. Another K-Pop male band, BTS, also recorded a concert attendance of 46M people on Fortnight. 

Furthermore, hip-hop singer Travis Scott’s concert performance on Fortnight was also famous. Although the metaverse is not yet here, several brands are currently positioning their companies for its arrival.
